Conventional farmers use
fertilizers and
pesticides to make their
crops thrive. The
chemicals in pesticides
kill insects, mold,
fungus, and weeds, while
the fertilizers provide
nourishment for growth.
The big problem is that
these very chemicals
that seem to be
beneficial to plants
have been shown to be
toxic or even
carcinogenic for humans
and animals. When they
are absorbed through the
skin, swallowed, or
inhaled, some pretty
serious health
consequences can result.
For instance, in humans
pesticides can lead to
an increased risk of
leukemia and lymphoma,
decreased fertility,
increased risk of lung,
brain, and testicular
cancers, damage to the
liver and pancreas,
asthma, allergies, and
an increase in
stillbirths. Especially
alarming is the fact
that children are most
susceptible to the
dangers of these
chemicals. Children have
higher metabolic rates
so the chemicals can do
damage much more
quickly. And, they have
thinner skin so the
compounds are more
readily absorbed. These
factors put them at
higher risk for
pesticide-related
conditions such as
respiratory problems and
the much more serious
diseases, leukemia and
brain cancer.
These fertilizers and
pesticides are actually
depleting our soils of
their basic mineral
content and this is why
our foods now contain
less minerals than they
did 50 years ago. Our
bodies need minerals in
order to function at
their peak performance,
however the majority of
Americans lack minerals
in their daily diet.
The Need for Trace
Mineral Supplementation
Soil around the
world has lost
essential trace
mineral content,
potentially causing
dangerously low
levels in our fruits
and vegetables. It
is speculated that
lowered levels of
trace minerals in
soil may be at the
very root of our
21st century health
challenges.
Linus Pauling, twice
noble prize winner
stated that "You can
trace every health
condition to a
mineral deficiency".
Yet, all over the
world, minerals are
disappearing from
agricultural soil at
an alarming rate. In
1992, the official
report of the Rio
Earth Summit
concluded "there is
deep concern over
continuing major
declines in the
mineral values in
farm and range soils
throughout the
world".
This statement was
based on data
showing that over
the last 100 years,
average mineral
levels in
agricultural soils
had fallen worldwide
- by 72% in the US
and 76% Europe.
Further, The SEER
(Sustainable
Ecological Earth
Regeneration)
Center, which
undertook the first
scientifically
controlled field
trials of soil
demineralization in
Scotland, says that
unless vital
nutrients and
elements are placed
back into the soil,
the quality of food
and the well-being
of the planet will
deteriorate.
What’s the solution?,
re-mineralize your body
daily with organic
minerals.
